Alfonso Camberos, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Alfonso Camberos is a double-board certified plastic surgeon and is highly-regarded in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face, breast surgery, and body contouring. He prides himself on providing meticulous individualized care and is known for his kind bedside manner and technical skill. The safety and happiness of his patients is paramount.

Dr. Camberos is a native of San Diego. He attended Third College (now called Thurgood Marshall College) at the University of California at San Diego where he double majored and received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology. In medical school, he graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine, where he further distinguished himself as a James Scholar Research Fellow while obtaining his medical doctorate.

Dr. Camberos completed a full five year general surgery residency program in Los Angeles at the Kaiser Metropolitan Medical Center and USC/Los Angeles County Hospital. As a resident, he authored numerous scientific articles and presented his research in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. He is certified first by the American Board of Surgery.

In 2005, he finished his Plastic Surgery fellowship in Manhattan at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, the University Hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. His clinical experience included training at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He was awarded the Dicran Goulian Award for Excellence in Plastic Surgery and was chosen as the Administrative Senior Plastic Surgery Fellow in his final year. In New York, he was trained by national leaders in the field of cosmetic surgery of the face, breast surgery, and body contouring. Dr. Camberos is certified also by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Spending an additional year in San Francisco at the renowned Buncke Clinic completing a fellowship in Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery was rewarding experience which helped refine his microsurgical technical skills. While at the Buncke Clinic, he worked closely with professors from Stanford University and the University of California at San Francisco, training numerous residents from both programs.

Dr. Camberos provides plastic surgery services to patients throughout San Diego County. He is a staff plastic surgeon at many hospitals including Sharp Memorial Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas and Tri-City Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Camberos is a member of the Scripps Mercy Outreach Program which travels to Mexico conducting charitable plastic surgery operations.

Dr. Camberos is the father of four children and lives with his wife and family in San Diego. He speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys traveling, weight training and golf in his spare time.
